About the Author
Selene Castrovilla is the award-winning author of two historical nonfiction books for children. By the Sword was named a 2008 IRA Notable Book, was a Moonbeam Children’s Book Award gold medalist for 2009, and won a Kansas Reading Circle 2007 award. Her second historical nonfiction book, Upon Secrecy, will be published in 2010. Selene holds an MFA in creative writing from New School University and a BA in English from New York University. Selene always knew she was a writer, but some of her subjects have come as a surprise. Above all, she aims to tell the truth in her books, and to be the change she wishes to see in the world. She lives on Long Island with her two sons. Saved by the Music is her first Young Adult novel.
